Pressure relief valves are mounted in a process line as a protective safety feature. It is designed to vent the pressure in a system to stop over pressure. They are commonly mounted by a threaded or flanged connection. Venting to atmosphere is common where inert gases are present, and the pressure is not too high. On more aggressive applications the vented pressure will be safely re-directed or piped away to safety, this can also be the case with high temperatures.
